When I canceled my subscription to the Washington Post — after owner Jeff Bezos was caught putting his thumb on the editorial scale last year — Philip Bump was one of the journalists I was sad to lose access to.
On the weekend, on his new website — https://pbump.net — Mr. Bump explored the irony that the governors of Ohio, West Virginia, and South Carolina offered to deploy troops from their National Guard forces to Washington, DC at a time when 43 cities and towns in those states have higher violent crime rates than the District.
I'm not suggesting those troops be deployed to Wheeling, Bamberg, and Elmwood Place ... I'm suggesting their deployment to Washington, DC is about what it *looks* like, not what it is.
