An American Prayer
Lord, do not turn from us as we turn from dispossessed refugees and impoverished immigrantsLord, do not treat us as we treat those who come penniless to our jails, courts, and prisons
Lord, do not despise us as we despise all those we regard as less than ourselves
Lord, do not destroy us as we are determined to destroy our enemies
In your mercy, lead us in the paths of righteousness and peace
to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you
